Today I went to what was probably my first ever school Epiphany carol services. School was shut on the last day of the Christmas term because of snow so the carol services that were to take place that morning in church were cancelled. A great shame, as the children had practised hard and some were disappointed that they didn’t get to take part.
Well, if it was alright for the kings to be late then why shouldn’t we, decided the head and RE coordinator as we gathered for the new term. So, today we had our school Christmas communion , a month late! We heard the story again and sung ‘Once in Royal and O come all ye faithful’ in the middle of January. (Slades, “Merry Christmas, everybody” was just brilliant)
The best thing we have done in this benefice is to admit children to communion before confirmation. We can feed our children. School communion services are so exciting. It’s a huge privilege to share bread and blessings with so many kids. I always come away energised with a big grin on my face.
Bet God is smiley too.
