I am not a tidy person.

Teach us dear Lord, to number our days;

that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Oh, satisfy us early with Thy mercy,

that we may rejoice and be glad all of our days.

And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us;

and establish Thou the work of our hands.

And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us;

and establish Thou the work of our hands, dear Lord.

    (mid- day prayer canticle from Celtic daily prayer)

Am taking Brother Lawrence to heart this morning and practising the presence of God in the housework. ‘Lord of all pots and pans and things…..make me a saint by getting meals and washing up the plates!’

Only I am trying to find the beauty of God in it all and failing.  I wish the house would tidy itself!

I do know God is in this task but He knows that I would much rather be out in the parish doing something useful.

Thank you for the redeemed time this morning that allowed me to do a task that I keep putting off.

Here is another prayer from the Celtic daily prayer book:

Help me to find my happiness

in my acceptance

of what is Your purpose for me:

in friendly eyes, in work well done,

in quietness born of trust,

and, most of all,

in the awareness of Your presence

in my spirit.

Well thats that then. The beauty of the Lord is upon me but not on the tidiness of the house.  At least it is clean!
